Voiceover Pricing and Licensing Overview
Basic Session Fee (BSF):
For most types of voiceover work, the starting price is £275, which covers the Basic Session Fee (BSF).
This fee includes:
-
Access to a professional recording studio with a sound isolation booth and industry-standard equipment, ensuring broadcast-quality recordings.
-
Script preparation and editing/processing of audio files
-
Directed sessions, where clients can listen in and provide feedback during recording via platforms such as Zoom, Source Connect, or Cleanfeed.
The BSF typically applies to voiceovers for corporate videos, audio guides, and documentaries.
Usage Licensing:
In addition to the BSF, a usage license is required when the voiceover will be publicly broadcast - such as on websites or social media platforms. This is because while clients own the copyright to their script, the voiceover artist retains the rights to their performance.
For organic online use (e.g., your website, YouTube, social media platforms - without paid advertising), the usage fee can vary based on the size of the company and the video’s expected reach.
Online Advertising and Social Media Campaigns:
For online adverts (e.g., YouTube, Instagram, Facebook ads), the voiceover cost is calculated by:
-
The £275 BSF for studio time, recording, and editing.
-
An online commercial usage license, which is calculated based on the number of impressions and campaign duration.
-
Licenses can be tailored to campaign size, company scale, and duration:
TV Advertising:
For TV campaigns, pricing includes:
The £275 BSF for recording and production.
A TV commercial usage license, calculated based on campaign scope and audience reach.
In the UK, TV reach is measured in TVRs (Television Ratings), where 1 TVR equals approximately 490,000 impressions.
A typical TV campaign involves around 400 TVRs.
Usage license terms will specify where the ad will air, on which channels, and for how long.
